This research deeply explores the concept of "meaning construction in poetic discourse" as found in the work of the Mauritanian poet Mohammed Ould Abdi, focusing on the pivotal role of both historical and social contexts. The study operates on the premise that a poetic text is not an isolated entity; rather, its meaning is shaped through a dynamic interaction with its surrounding historical and social circumstances. The research aims to analyze how major historical events in Mauritania (such as independence, political conflicts, and economic transformations) and social issues (including tribalism, religious values, poverty, education, and identity) manifest in Ould Abdi's poetry. It investigates the artistic mechanisms the poet employed to embed these contexts into his texts, and how these interactions contribute to enriching and crystallizing meaning.
The study adopts a descriptive analytical methodology, grounded in contemporary critical frameworks such as contextual criticism, cultural criticism, reception theory, and discourse analysis, to provide an in-depth critical reading of Ould Abdi's poetry. The research seeks to identify historical and social influences, reveal the dialectical relationship between text and context, and analyze selected poems to illustrate how context manifests in meaning construction at both linguistic and semantic levels. This includes a focus on the poet's use of language and dialect, poetic imagery and symbolism, and musical rhythm. The significance of this research lies in enriching the Arabic library with specialized studies on Mauritanian poetry and offering an applied model for a contextual approach to poetic texts.
